Criminal Court President Ivan Dzolev says regarding the Criminal Code changes that he doesn’t know whether the timing for their adoption was right.
When it comes to the issue of expiration of statute of limitations over cases, he believes that the finger shouldn’t be pointed at the judiciary.
“The statute of limitations over cases against former officials opened by the now-defunct Special Prosecutor’s Office didn’t expire due to the judiciary being inefficient and judges, but due to the Criminal Code changes, which reduced sentences for the crime of abuse of official position and authority, Article 353,” he states, adding that time will ultimately show whether the changes are good or not and whether the contribute to the rule of law.
