Enlargement among Topics Discussed by Germany’s Baerbock at Conference

At Thursday’s conference in Berlin headlined “A larger, stronger Union – making the European Union fit for enlargement and future members fit for accession”, Germany’s Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, announced the start of the process to strengthen the internal structures of the EU, as preparation of the enlargement process.

At the same time, she proposed gradual integration of candidates. As Baerbock added, the EU should start bold reforms as it gets ready to enlarge. The German Minister warned over the so- called either-or approach to enlargement, proposing for candidates to be allowed to attend Council of the EU meetings before full-fledged membership comes.

According to her, the EU should ensure that people from candidate countries, especially youth will get a chance to feel EU advantages at an early stage, even before full-fledged membership.
