EU Ambassador Geer in Interview with Sitel

“I completely understand that following the election, there should be a real desire for significant, radical action to address the rule of law. But what’s important, I think, is that a certain amount has already been achieved,” EU Ambassador David Geer says in an interview with Sitel regarding the issue of disbanding the Judicial Council and Council of Public Prosecutors.

According to him, what needs to be done is building on what’s been achieved already.

“We’re not starting from nothing. I don’t think we should be in a position where we simply, sort of, wipe clean the slate, and start again. It sounds attractive, but, actually, it doesn’t achieve the goal that we want, which is to see real improvements in the rule of law. So, what we need to do is build on what has been achieved already,” the Ambassador points out.

Regarding the constitutional changes, he’s sceptical when it comes to аn opportunity of the government negotiating something further.
