EU Ambassador Rokas again Says There’s Big Momentum over Enlargement

The EU Delegation will focus on helping North Macedonia deliver when it comes to reforms, but there is big momentum with regards to enlargement that the country should use, EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas assessed on Thursday.

The EU, he added, welcomes the messages of congratulations over the formation of the new government in Bulgaria. Ambassador Rokas reiterated that there was an intensive diplomatic activity over North Macedonia’s EU path.

“The PM [Hristijan Mickoski] was twice in Brussels in December, so there’s intensive diplomatic activity at this moment. However, simultaneously with these diplomatic efforts to overcome the Bulgaria issue, our focus will be on focusing on implementation and delivery of reforms that also stem from the Reform Agenda recently adopted by your Government”, he noted.

Regarding Mickoski’s visit to the US and the start of Donald Trump’s second term as President, he stated that America was a very important contributor to and partner of the country.

“Every initiative coming from the other side of the Atlantic so that progress is made in the EU integration process of the country is more than welcome”, Ambassador Rokas pointed out.

In Bulgaria, BTA has reported that at a meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa, Bulgarian PM Rosen Zhelyazkov expressed support for enlargement, but according to the merit-based principle, that is, in line with meeting of criteria.
