On Friday, the day before his meeting with counterpart Georg Georgiev on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Foreign Minister Timco Mucunski said the neighbouring countries should talk from the standpoint of good faith and about matters that unite, adding that divisions should stop.
As he added, the obvious and logical way to move forward is removing all barriers not befitting European values. Some challenges take time, dialogue, talks and dialogue, Mucunski stressed, adding nonetheless that there was a possibility of a positive step forward.
Also in Munich, the head of North Macedonia’s delegation, PM Hristijan Mickoski, met with European Council President Antonio Costa. According to the Government’s press-release, Mickoski said his country deserved to move forward on the EU path and it should finally stop being a hostage of bilateral disputes and obstacles.
Also, the following day, at an official side event of the Conference, Foreign Policy’s Emerging Threats Forum, the PM criticised Bulgaria’s “denying” of the Macedonian identity and language.
“Why is everybody silent then? Why is everybody pretending that this is not occurring? We’re talking about a small country at the heart of the Balkans with fewer than two million people who want to be a part of the European family and they’re not able to be a part of the European family because someone, as you said, a little bit bigger, got to the EU table prior to my country”, he stated, adding that Skopje was facing a lot of problems with Sofia.
Mickoski’s activities in Munich also included meetings with the Chair of Conference, Christoph Heusgen, and with his Croatian counterpart, Andrej Plenkovic.
