European Alliance for Changes to Boycott Parliament

The MP group of the European Alliance for Changes, consisting of MPs from Besa, Alternative and the Democratic Movement (LD), decided to start a boycott of the work of the Parliament.

The European Alliance for Changes resorted to this because the Parliament is yet to appoint a member for the vacant position at the State Electoral Commission (SEC), which they believe should be nominated by the opposition parties in the Albanian political block.

“Despite our constant calls to Parliament Speaker Talat Xhafer to not usurp the right of the opposition to be represented at SEC, he and DUI continue to come up with numerous obstructions for this process, so they can manipulate the election process and the results from the same this May. Because of this, starting today, our MPs will no longer participate in the work of the Parliament, until the matter with the empty seat at SEC is resolved. We are also ready for more radical steps if our demands are not heeded by the Parliament and PS Xhaferi,” they stated from the European Alliance for Changes.
