European Council President Costa Meets PM Mickoski

In Skopje on Thursday, European Council President Antonio Costa held a meeting with PM Hristijan Mickoski, which was followed by a joint press-conference.

The EU expects North Macedonia to adopt the constitutional changes in order to proceed on the EU path, with the Council President Costa stressing that there was no plan B and that the focus should be on plan A. At the meeting, the Council’s President had been told that Skopje found acceptable a delayed effect of the constitutional changes as a guarantee that there would be no new conditions over bilateral issues.

The PM stated that his country has had the most difficult and frustrating EU path, stressing nonetheless it would not accept new concessions unless the other side did the same. He also called for joint action to unblock the process.
