Tuesday’s session of the Political Committee and Intercommunity Relations Committee of Parliament saw the rejection of the initiative filed by the DUI-led European Front’s for an oversight debate over the Kocani fire.
The document was supported by four Committee members representing the Front and SDSM. On the other hand, VMRO-DPMNE and VLEN representatives stated that them not voting didn’t mean they were against such a debate, stressing that it should cover other cases, such as the 2021 Tetovo hospital fire, and Laskarci and Struma bus accidents, as well.
Also, in their view, it wouldn’t be good for there to be a debate while the investigation is underway because that would constitute pressure and interference in that process.
SDSM’s parliamentarians said it was not the time to exploit the Kocani tragedy to score political points, while DUI’s MPs stressed that the rejection of the initiative meant the current government was showing that it was not the voice of the people.
