On Sunday, Ziadin Sela, head of the Alliance for Albanians wing that’s part of the DUI-led European Front, said though he had nothing personal against the leader of the other wing, Health Minister Arben Taravari, he couldn’t trust him, that is, he rejected the possibility of reunification “until Taravari resigns”.
“He betrayed me,” Sela added.
The European Front MP’s stand is that members of Taravari’s wing were lied to. In that regard, he called on them to join his wing and described himself as the legitimate leader of the party. Sela believes that Taravari doesn’t have a clear stand with regards to his political action, which, in turn, has a negative impact on citizens.
Asked what would happen if Taravari and DUI leader Ali Ahmeti agreed to jointly participate in the local elections, Sela didn’t give a concrete answer.
Once again, the MP said there had been several meetings between the two persons over the past period. However, he first would like to see a clear proposal that someone wants to join the Front before he presents his stand on whether he will continue to be part of the Ahmeti-led coalition or leave it.
Nonetheless, Sela’s position is that the entire ethnic Albanian bloc should be united, which would include also all VLEN co-leaders, in order for the rights of ethnic Albanians to be “protected”.
He denied that he had had or that he was planning a meeting with PM Hristijan Mickoski where him potentially joining the cabinet would be discussed.
“If I meet with the PM, it will be about the constitutional changes regarding the EU integration path, while I will also ask for a change to the Constitution regarding the Albanian language matter”, he emphasized, adding that he would also ask for a change at the decision-making model at the Constitutional Court in order for the Badinter principle to be used by that institution too.
