Ex-Secret Police Chief Set to Be Released in Parole in December

Ex-secret police chief Saso Mijalkov is set to be released on parole in December. The decision was announced on Monday by the Criminal Court.

Previously, the Court of Appeals had accepted his appeal and returned the Empire case to the first-instance institution. As a result of the plea deal, Mijalkov was given a three-year prison sentence in the Empire process. He is doing time in the Struga prison.

In Monday’s press-release, the Criminal Court said it had made the decision on the basis of its action upon a proposal from the prison head, Valon Qyra, and following consideration of documentation according to the Court of Appeals’ instructions.

Mijalkov will be released on 25 December, while the parole will cover the period until 25 April 2025.
