Ex-Suto Orizari Prison Head Andov Arrested in Police Operation

Former Suto Orizari prison head Filip Andov and his associate, Saso Krstevski, have been arrested, Sitel has reported regarding the operation on Thursday.

The investigation is nonetheless covering also other former and current employees suspected of being part of a well-networked criminal scheme. Some of them are suspected of unlawfully releasing prisoners and agreeing on escapes by using their positions.

The Interior Ministry and Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime and Corruption first said the searches were being executed on the basis of an order issued by a judge in the previous procedure. Several hours later, the authorities officially said Andov and nine other people had been charged in the case.

However, prosecutors haven’t sought a detention measure against the suspects, that is, it has sought only milder measures.
