Flag of North Macedonia Banned from Australia Open Tennis Courts

The Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) of Australia in Macedonian language published a photograph of a sheet of paper attached to the cameras recording the Australia Open tennis matches on which the flag of North Macedonia is enlisted with several others as a banned flag.

As SBS Macedonian reports, a week ago the Executive Director of Australia Open Craig Tylee announced that the audience at the tennis matches will be prevented to bring in and use the flags of Israel and Palestine, but the photo of the sheet with the banned flags also included the flags of North Macedonia, Russia, Belarus and Taiwan.

The organisers are yet to clarify why the Macedonian flag is banned from the tennis courts. Tennis player Lina Gjorcevska represented North Macedonia at the Australia Open, but was eliminated in the early stages of the tournament.
