Germany’s Wadephul Stresses Importance of Progress in Relations with Bulgaria

Progress in relations with Bulgaria is particularly important when it comes to future success in the accession process. That was the message German Foreign Minister Wadephul sent to PM Mickoski and counterpart Mucunski in Skopje.

The German politician didn’t hold a press conference in Skopje, nor did he give a statement. However, on social media, he said, in addition to the message concerning Bulgaria, that Germany supported North Macedonia on the EU path, a road which was not always easy, adding that the country had already achieved a lot.

The issue of blockades was discussed also by European Council President Costa at the Enlargement Forum.

“Merit-based means exactly that – an accession process evaluated only by Copenhagen criteria, and nothing else. It is not acceptable to continue blocking the accession of some member states for different reasons other than a merit-based approach”, he stated.

North Macedonia’s EU path was also a topic discussed at Mucunski’s meeting in Brussels on Wednesday with Enlargement Commissioner Kos.
