Government Accepts Justice Ministry Opinion on Chief Prosecutor Kocevski

The Government has given the green light for Ljupco Kocevski to be dismissed as Chief Prosecutor.

At its session on Tuesday, it accepted the Justice Ministry’s opinion according to which his term has seen a series of scandals, problems with functionality, bias, conflict of interest, and other problems. Spokesperson Marija Miteva said that that was not just the Government’s perception, that is, experts had established that as well.

Now, the Justice Ministry will submit the complete proposal, including also the Government’s conclusion, to the Council of Public Prosecutors. That institution’s President, Dimitrieska, has already said it will present an opinion (a positive or negative one) within the legal deadline of 15 days.

This is not the first such procedure. In 2017, Parliament dismissed then-Chief Prosecutor Marko Zvrlevski on similar grounds. The then-composition of the Council issued a positive opinion.
