IDC Recommends Use of Masks in Healthcare Facilities, Retirement Homes

The Infectious Diseases Committee (IDC) decided at a meeting on Tuesday to recommend obligations for use of masks in healthcare facilities and in retirement homes. This follows the situation with the significantly increased number of cases of respiratory infections all over the country over the past weeks.

“We have entered the flu season, and we need to be thinking about protecting the most vulnerable people, i.e. the elderly people over 65 years of age, people with chronic diseases, and we call on them, if they have not completed vaccination in the past period, to ensure they are protected by receiving a vaccine against flu. As regards pertussis (whooping cough), only two cases remain registered in the country thus far,” said IDC President Aleksandar Petlickovski.

Director of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje Milena Stevanovic informed that six flu patients have died since the start of the season.
