Ilinden Uprising Day and Republic Day Marked throughout Country

At the marking of Ilinden Uprising Day and Day of the Republic at Meckin Kamen, 2 August, on Friday, PM Hristijan Mickoski praised the Ilinden revolutionaries.

However, he also discussed current challenges facing the country.

“Let’s bring back values where they belong – for those who have broken the laws to be held liable, for workers to have decent salaries, for youth to have a chance at a future, for farmers to be satisfied, for doctors to be respected,” the PM noted.

Mickoski also sent messages about equality and the rule of law. Regarding the EU path and Bulgaria, he stated that though his country wanted a solution, it should be a dignified one that would not come at the price of identity.

“Orientations to proceed on the EU path remain,” the PM stressed, adding nonetheless that there should be equal criteria.

At the marking of the two holidays at the ASNOM Memorial Centre in Pelince, President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova presented a similar stand, that is, she said there had been numerous obstacles on the EU path.

Regarding the holidays, she praised, inter alia, revolutionaries Goce Delcev, Nikola Karev, as well as Metodija Andonov Cento. At the marking of 2 August in the centre of Skopje, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said Ilinden belonged to everybody.

“It unites us. North Macedonia is a multiethnic, multicultural, and multiconfessional country. Those diversities are the foundation on which the country develops and progresses. Our strength as a society consists of our diversity,” he stated.

SDSM leader Venko Filipce, who laid flowers at the Cento statue in the centre of Skopje, said politics shouldn’t be an obstacle preventing unification around the Ilinden and ASNOM ideals.
