In Skopje, PM Mickoski again Says EU Has Double Standards, Criticises Bulgaria

“We will be telling the true story of Macedonia everywhere around the world. We will be presenting and fighting for our arguments about predictability of the EU accession process”, PM Hristijan Mickoski said on Sunday in Skopje, commenting on his visit to the US.

As he pointed out, support for the EU path had come even before the meetings in the US. However, the PM added that the reality was that the EU had double standards and that Bulgaria was “taking us back to the Middle Ages”.

“We must start winning in Washington, Brussels, Berlin, Paris, Rome, London”, he said, stressing that the “irresponsible politicians” previously had no ambition to do so. According to him, the truth creates frustration.

“We must find ourselves in the new normal, that’s my campaign. On the other side, we must also state what our frustration and pain is. If someone took issue with what [US Vice-President JD] Vance said [at the Munich Security Conference], I too take issue because I [North Macedonia] haven’t been able to move even a millimetre not because I [North Macedonia] am not good but because someone should be resolving 10th and 11th century issues”, the PM emphasized.

The efforts to build an alliance with all countries will continue, he assessed.

On Friday, Mickoski will travel to Istanbul, where he will have a private lunch with Turkiye’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The plan is for the cabinet arguments about the EU path to be presented also at the North Macedonia-Hungary intergovernmental conference in Budapest.
