The PM (Taoiseach) of Ireland Leo Varadkar, paid on Friday an official visit to Skopje, as part of his tour through the Western Balkans. Varadkar had a meeting with PM Dimitar Kovacevski, discussing with him the process of EU-integration of North Macedonia and the rest of the Western Balkans and the challenges the countries face in the realisation of that goal.

The EU integration should be a national ambition, not only political or party business, the entire process must be accelerated. I am very glad to be the first Taoiseach to ever visit North Macedonia, and with this gesture we try to show that Ireland is very interested and dedicated to aid the EU integration of the Western Balkans. Joining the EU is very important for the regional security, and the people here would experience all the benefits that Ireland experience when we joined the EU. We are ready to provide any form of assistance,” Varadkar said.

PM Kovacevski pointed out Ireland as one of the best examples about how a country can develop and progress after joining the EU.
