The Skopje II Basic Court has found Investigative Reporting Laboratory (IRL) guilty of defaming businessperson and ex-Deputy PM Koco Angjusev and his company, Brako.
According to the Court’s ruling, in the documentary “Conspiracy against Air”, Angjusev was not sent questions, nor was he given a chance to respond. IRL Editor-in-Chief Saska Cvetkovska described the ruling as scandalous.
She criticised Judge Jovanka Spirovska Paneva’s explanation that “the private right, the right to business, and to а private interest” are stronger than freedom of speech.
“That’s all there is to say about this scandalous verdict. This Judge lost the first verdict against ex-secret police chief Saso Mijalkov in Strasbourg,” she stressed, adding that IRL, too, would carry out the same procedure before the European Court of Human Rights.
