Chief Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski said on Wednesday that Parliament had adopted the Criminal Code changes in a legal procedure, adding that his Office had the duty to apply them.
Though the Government didn’t consult the Office, Joveski’s stand is that his institution’s stand is irrelevant because the adoption of the changes was a will of MPs. According to him, the Office cannot present currently statistics about the number of cases over which the statute of limitations will expire.
However, Joveski said he was optimistic that the number will not be high. Prosecutor’s offices will try to save everything that can be saved in the cases and seek, if there are grounds for that, also confiscation, according to him.
Joveski made those comments after the session of the Council of Public Prosecutors where Dusica Dimitrievska, a Council member since January, had been elected to succeed Council President Antonio Jolevski, whose term is expiring.
