Karpos Mayor Stevco Jakimovski, five employees of the Municipality’s Urbanism Sector, and a legal entity based in the capital have been charged with abuse of official position and authority.
As police said, after a request to determine a legal status of an illegal structure had been filed by the legal entity, the five employees went to the location and prepared insight minutes, in which, they illegally found that, allegedly, the sports and recreation facilities (tennis courts) met conditions for legalisation, even though such facilities cannot be legalised.
Afterwards, the Interior Ministry said, together with the Mayor, they signed off on the urbanism consent document and, after the payment of the property tax, drew up and signed off on the decision granting a legal status to an illegal structure.
That way, it was explained in the press release, they enabled the legal entity to register the illegal structures covering an area of 3,993 square metres and obtain illegal property benefit amounting to 147,341,700 denars.
The Municipality described the charge as tendentious and politically motivated, saying the legalisation case had been solved in line with the law.
