Karpos Mayor Jakimovski Says Verdict’s Based on Falsified Documents

Karpos Mayor Stevco Jakimovski, who was on Wednesday sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for unlawful construction and abuse of official position, has said the prefab structures on the territory of the Municipality were built in full compliance with the law, adding that they are temporary prefabricated facilities that meet all prescribed standards.

“These facilities are not at all illegal structures, but rather temporary and prefab constructions built in accordance with rulebooks on temporary contractions”, he said on Thursday.

As he also pointed out, the projects for the facilities had been drawn up in line with all regulations and submitted to relevant institutions for approval. In the Mayor’s view, the verdict finding the facilities illegal is based on falsified documents. In that regard, he said a procedure would be launched.

“Not only do we have all required permits, but also there are electronic records proving there were no irregularities in the construction process. It’s about fakes made at the Financial Police Administration”, Jakimovski noted.

The Mayor stressed the temporary facilities pose no danger to the environment, while there was special focus on safety and efficiency.

“What damage have I done? Who’s complained of these structures? It’s about temporary facilities that can be dismantled easily and that pose no danger to people or the surrounding area”, the Karpos Mayor emphasized.
