Russian FM Sergey Lavrov announced on Monday that he will attend the OSCE ministerial Summit in Skopje if Bulgaria opens its airspace so that he can arrive and land in Skopje. “We have been invited by North Macedonia to attend the Ministerial Council, and it seems that Bulgaria had promised them that they will open their airspace for us. If this is successful, we shall be there,” Lavrov said.
On Monday evening, Russian Ambassador to Sofia Eleonora Mitrofanova informed that Bulgaria decided to open its airspace for the airplane of Lavrov so he can land in Skopje for the OSCE Ministerial Summit. In relation to this, European Commission (EC) Spokesperson Peter Stano stated that Lavrov is able to travel to EU member-states, or to other European countries, even though he is on the European list of sanctions against Russia.
“His eventual presence in Skopje would be a good opportunity for EU officials to discuss with him face to face the lies he tends to spread,” Stano said.
