Le Rigoleur: There’s No Absolute Guarantee for Outcome of EU-Integration Process

French Ambassador to North Macedonia Christoph Le Rigoleur stated in an interview for MIA that official Paris supports the integration of North Macedonia in the EU, and is ready to provide any form of assistance necessary for overcoming the obstacles in that process the country is currently facing.

“Commitments must be honoured. It is necessary to be realistic and to understand there is no absolute guarantee for the outcome of the integration process, which in itself is complex, because it requires unanimity from all member countries. Yet, France is prepared to work and to use its power of conviction to make sure the integration process benefits the EU and the entire South-Eastern region of Europe.

The EU and the European Council have always been very creative when it comes to finding a solution to overcoming situations of blockade. Still, there is no formal ’27 minus 1’ mechanism, which is why it cannot be an institutionalised solution to the current blockade. Without a doubt, the best guarantee for North Macedonia is to keep on being committed to its reforms, in order to enhance its candidacy, whose quality will be recognised by the European Commission and the member countries,” Ambassador Le Rigoleur said.

Commenting on the relations between North Macedonia and France within the frameworks of NATO, Ambassador Le Rigoleur said that North Macedonia can always count on French support for meeting the army capacity goals coming from the obligations from the NATO membership.
