Association of Local Self-Government Units President and Kisela Voda Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski said on Wednesday that Skopje needed a so-called spring-clean because what tourists saw in the capital was embarrassing.
After a joint discussion with counterparts from other municipalities in the capital, he said they felt the same.
All City of Skopje PEs are not functional, but the situation is most serious when it comes to the ones in charge of parks and green areas, and communal hygiene, it was assessed. That’s why they asked for the City of Skopje’s competences over those two PEs to be taken away.
Gjorgjievski said it would be formally requested for that to be done at the next session of the Government.
Karpos Mayor Stevco Jakimovski said Skopje had never been clean.
According to him, the problems facing the two PEs are not a result only of Danela Arsovska’s term as Mayor.
“We will not solve problems if we don’t solve the issue of the communal inspection law. Communal inspectors must get authorisations,” he stressed.
Mayors, Jakimovski believes, should task themselves with transforming the PEs by the end of the year.
