Mazut Case: Suspect Asmir Jahoski’s Guarantee Rejected by Criminal Court’s Council

The Criminal Court’s Criminal Council has dismissed as unfounded the guarantee of two million euros filed by the attorney of Pucko Petrol owner, Asmir Jahoski, who’s among the suspects in the Mazut case, where he’s suspected of money laundering and other income from crimes, for his detention measure to be abolished and him to be out on bail.

“Despite the positive opinion by the Public Prosecutor, the Court, considering all circumstances related to the investigation, believes that, at this moment, circumstances for the existence of the detention measure of Item 2 of Article 165 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Procedure Law still exist, i.e. circumstances indicating that he may obstruct the investigation by influencing witnesses, as well as that he may falsify, conceal or destroy the traces of the crime, considering that the investigative procedure is still underway and other investigative activities to gather evidence are still being taken”, the Court said on Tuesday, reiterating that its Council had extended the detention measure against Jahoski upon a proposal filed by the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime and Corruption dated 8 April precisely because of the reasons provided for in Item 2 of Article 165 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Procedure Law.

The suspect has a right to appeal the Court’s decision before the Skopje Court of Appeals within three days.
