Measures of Precaution against 10 Suspects in Suto Orizari Prison Case

In the Suto Orizari prison case, the Criminal Court has issued measures of precaution against the 10 suspects, including the former head of the institution, Filip Andov, who’s suspected of having enabled five convicts to be able to leave the prison from time to time.

The passports of the 10 suspects have been taken away, they are not allowed to leave the place where they live, have to report to the Court, must not contact certain persons, and are prohibited from carrying out certain work activities related to the crime.

Among the suspects are also the prison police commander, the director’s personal driver. The other seven are prison police officers.

Regarding the case, Interior Minister Pance Toskovski said based on the evidence, there was reasonable doubt that the prison had functioned more like a tourist-hospitality legal entity. According to him, a criminal charge was filed several months ago concerning another prison over unlawful actions with regards to convicts.

“I believe there will be other procedures related to similar types of crime in the future too”, he noted.

Commenting on the fact that Andov hadn’t been issued a detention measure, that is, that precaution ones had been issued, VMRO-DPMNE said it was not a surprise that SDSM was feverishly fighting for the “corrupt judges and defending them with its last strength”.

The party asked what convinced the Court that Andov wouldn’t escape. The same day, however, SDSM said VMRO-DPMNE was the party with the biggest number of convicted criminals in the history of the country.
