MEP Waitz Says Brussels hasn’t Given up on Western Balkans’ Integration

Austrian MEP Thomas Waitz, who’s the Rapporteur on North Macedonia has said that though admission of new members of the EU is a long process, Brussels hadn’t given up on integration of Western Balkan countries. In his view, the Skopje-Sofia misunderstanding should be overcome through dialogue.

In an interview with the Agenda 35 show, MEP Waitz pointed out that though the constitutional changes to include Bulgarians in the Constitution should be made, Brussels and Sofia should present clear statements guaranteeing there wouldn’t be new requirements on the EU path.

PM Hristijan Mickoski, on his part, has said his country is ready to talk, nonetheless adding that it remains committed to protecting its national interests and identity.
