“This government doesn’t intend to accept ultimatums when it comes to negotiations with the EU. We’ve made a lot of compromises,” PM Hristijan Mickoski said on Friday, adding that if the EU truly had a desire to admit the country as a member, it could do so.
The same day, European Council President Charles Michel, regarding his meeting the previous day with Mickoski, said on X (formerly Twitter) that he had “commended North Macedonia’s geostrategic orientation and commitment to EU membership”.
As he added in the post, with the current momentum in enlargement, North Macedonia has a real opportunity to advance on the EU path and become a member.
“It is now key to implement past commitments, respect legally binding agreements, and continue EU-related reforms with determination,” Michel also wrote.
