PM Hristijan Mickoski said during his visit to the Municipality of Gazi Baba that the government will make efforts to deal with the issue with the Vardariste landfill.
“Vardariste is not something that was made up in the past months or years. It is a problem that lasts for 35 years now. However, we intend to attend these problems. Both the Vardariste and the Drisla landfills will be transformed into modern capacities meeting all European standards, and we will even build a factory in Drisla that will produce energy from the collected waste. Of course, there will be some politicians and NOGs that will oppose such projects, but we must endure it. There are no perfect things in life, and we must fight for the things we believe are the best for all of us”, Mickoski said.
Both landfills experienced problems with fires over the past week, resulting with serious air pollution in Skopje, which provoked protests by the citizens of Aerodrom, where the Vardariste landfill is located.
