Minister Murtezani Comments on EU Path-Related Topics

Though Brussels is not optimistic regarding North Macedonia’s proposal for the constitutional changes to enter into force once the country joins the EU, it is not rejecting it either, European Affairs Minister and Chief Negotiator Orhan Murtezani pointed out on Tuesday.

According to him, work is underway on how to prevent a potential new blockade from Bulgaria after the constitutional changes because the Good-Neighbourliness Treaty protocol includes mechanisms enabling that.

The new plan will not be revealed before the end of the Bulgarian elections to ensure that it will be acceptable to the new government in Sofia, too.

North Macedonia’s Government will send a letter to all EU institutions with the new solutions that, according to it, will meet the condition for constitutional changes, but also result in guarantees that there will be no new blockade.

Despite the decoupling decision, Murtezani believes North Macedonia has a chance to catch up by the end of the year in order for the both to continue together in the same enlargement wave.
