European Affairs Minister Orhan Murtezani has said Bulgaria’s representative within the EU’s Working Group for Enlargement has notified him Sofia is ready for talks and sending positive messages to set up dialogue.
“I think a good environment is being created that we must use not only to establish dialogue that must exist between neighbouring countries to build good-neighbourly relations, but also for room that will lead us to a mutually acceptable solution that will ultimately put us in the EU”, he pointed out on Wednesday.
Regarding his meetings in Brussels, Murtezani, prior to the one he had with Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, stated that he made an appeal to all representatives of the EU, that is, he emphasised that a move was needed by Brussels for North Macedonia to start negotiations considering the country had faced long-time bilateral disputes.
“For us to be able to proceed successfully forward, there must be an echo from Brussels that will assure us that further irrational bilateral issues will not block our negotiations process”, Minister Murtezani underlined.
At the meeting with Kos, held after the aforementioned comments, Murtezani and the Commissioner discussed reforms, the Growth Plan, as well as the constitutional changes issue.
“They exchanged views also on the constitutional changes in the context of the challenges on the EU path. They concluded good-neighbourly relations were of key importance with regards to progress of North Macedonia’s EU integration and that all solutions should be in line with the will of citizens”, North Macedonia’s European Affairs Ministry said.
