Mitsotakis Expects North Macedonia’s PM-Designate to Respect Prespa Deal

On Sunday, Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he expected North Macedonia’s future PM-designate to adamantly say he respected the Prespa Agreement.

“I expect the PM-designate to say that the name of his country is ‘North Macedonia’, erga omnes, for internal and foreign use,” he pointed out, adding that he would raise the issue also at the 9-11 July NATO Summit.

The Greek PM stated that he expected logic to prevail. According to him, the new government of the northern neighbour shouldn’t put the European path, supported by Greece, in danger.

However, SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis asked the same day what Mitsotakis had done when VMRO-DPMNE participated in the elections, together with its coalition, under the name “Your Macedonia”, whether he’d reacted to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EPP President Manfred Weber or he had been “silent” over the provocation.
