Specialised Hospital for Geriatric and Palliative Medicine Acting Director Muhsin Arifi, who’s part of the Alliance for Albanians wing headed by Arben Taravari, has been arrested on suspicion that he took a bribe from a patient together with another person that served as a mediator, Telma reported on Tuesday.
According to unofficial information, the amount in question was 20,000 euros. Sitel reported that the bribe was paid in order for Arifi to approve a person’s application for a place at a geriatric institution.
“In a coordinated operation by the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime and Corruption and Interior Ministry, two persons have been arrested on suspicion of bribery and receiving a reward for unlawful influence”, the Office said on Tuesday.
Taravari stated that his wing was calling on state organs to solve the case as soon as possible.
“Everyone who breaks the laws has to be held to account, regardless of ethnic, religious or political affiliation”, he added.
Taravari also emphasised his wing would take all steps according to its Statute to preserve its reputation. The Health Ministry, headed by Taravari, issued a press-release as well. It too said it was in favour of the authorities solving the case as soon as possible.
“If any information is needed ex officio, we are at the disposal of the Office”, the institution added.
