New Reactions to Idea for President to Be Elected in Parliament

Reactions to the stand by DUI and Alliance for Albanians that the President should be elected in Parliament have continued. The party itself believes that presidential candidate and Alliance for Albanians leader Arben Taravari has stolen Ali Ahmeti’s idea.

DUI’s Arber Ademi stated on Friday that the core of the idea was to prevent the ethnic outvoting by major ethnic Macedonian partners. SDSM’s stand is that a lot of ideas will be presented in the pre-election period, while DUI’s proposal doesn’t depend only on one party.

“So far, we haven’t discussed that because that hasn’t been subject to a discussion within the party. However, I am telling you again that citizens will say what they find acceptable. Ultimately, the number of MPs will say what they find acceptable,” SDSM leader Dimitar Kovacevski said.

VMRO-DPMNE’s stand is much stricter. “The position of President is the highest post in terms of a title. Therefore, the President must be elected in elections because that’s the peak of democracy,” Aleksandar Nikoloski, stated.
