No Legal Obstacles Preventing Jakimovski from Running for President

Despite being blacklisted by the US, there are no legal obstacles preventing GROM candidate Stevco Jakimovski, who’s also the Mayor of Karpos, from running for President.

Answering a question from the Interior Ministry, the State Election Commission (SEC) said on Tuesday that conditions for electing the President were referred to in the Constitution.

According to the Electoral Code, a person meeting conditions defined by the Constitution is allowed to be a presidential candidate, with those conditions being: for them to be a North Macedonia citizen, for them to be at least 40, and for them to be a resident of for at least ten years in the last fifteen years.

“Other conditions are not provided for in the Code,” the SEC said.
