North Macedonia and Montenegro will cooperate in the field of judicial reform required on the EU integration path.
A memorandum signed by Justice Minister Igor Filkov and counterpart Bojan Bozovic on Tuesday provides for exchange of experiences for judicial system improvement, judicial independence, and dealing with corruption. Regarding the issue of laws concerning judicial reform in North Macedonia, Filkov said the process to submit texts to procedure in Parliament would start the following week.
Asked about relations within the ruling coalition, Filkov, who’s part of ZNAM, stated that the cabinet functioned great, adding that he neither planned to resign as Minister nor to run in the Karpos mayoral race in the 2025 local elections.
Asked about the Reform Agenda working groups, the Minister said SDSM’s decision to nominate Ana Cupeska and Ana Mihajlova Stratilati for the one concerning the judiciary was not a good one.
“I want to have faith in the good intention to help, participate in any process, but we must be aware that with names that participated and were creators of the problems, we will be hard-pressed to reach a good solution. Those two persons you referred to were part, in 2023, of the group drawing up the constitutional changes. So, I hope there will be a more serious approach and they will present new ones”, he stated, answering a journalist’s question.
