Ombudsman: 700 Citizens Yet to Acquire Personal Identification Documents

Ombudsman Naser Ziberi informed at a press conference about a case of a 14-year-old girl from Suto Orizari that finally acquired a birth certificate, making her visible for the legal systems of the state.

“The grandmother of the girl in question did not have the necessary information about how to acquire a birth certificate for her, and last year she addressed the Ombudsman over this matter. Our services dealt with this matter, and now finally we have a legal document that the girl indeed exists, and can now exercise her rights for social welfare”, Ombudsman Ziberi informed.

He added that the state simplified this procedure back in 2023, but there are still around 700 people that are not properly registered, have no personal identification documents, and because of that are unable to apply for different measures for assistance from the state.

Of them, 400 have initiated procedures for acquiring birth certificates and IDs.
