“The OSCE has been saved,” Chairperson-in-Office and Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said at the closing press-conference of the Ministerial, on Friday.
The participating States had previously adopted, by consensus, decisions for Malta to be the holder of Chairpersonship-in-Office next year, for the terms of OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid, Representative on Freedom of the Media Teresa Ribeiro, and High Commissioner on National Minorities Kariat Abdrakhmanov to be extended until 3 September 2024.
Also, Mateo Mecacci had been appointed Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights until the same date. All those decisions were welcomed by Osmani.
Malta’s Foreign Minister, Ian Borg, who will succeed Osmani as Chairperson-in-Office, expressed gratitude for the trust. Secretary General Schmid said that the decisions made in Skopje would enable the Organisation’s work to continue successfully.
