On Thursday, Parliament accepted Ilire Dauti’s resignation as Chair of the Social Policy Committee.
Explaining her decision to resign, the European Front parliamentarian, who previously hadn’t survived the no-confidence motion over the Defenders Draft-Law issue, filed by Levica, stated that she’d done her job in line with the Rules of Procedure.
“This is the peak of shame in Parliament and represents a direct threat towards a person elected by citizens, as well as holding of that person under control. My action over the issue of putting the Defenders Draft-Law on the agenda is based on Article 3, which implies additional conditions on how institutions are required to act,” she noted.
There had been problems at the start. Dauti got into an argument with Gashi and VMRO-DPMNE Parliamentary Group Coordinator, Nikola Micevski. The European Front MP wasn’t leaving the rostrum for more than 30 minutes, demanding that she explain her resignation at all costs and that Gashi immediately accept the resignation.
Fellow European Front MPs Blerim Bexheti and Talat Xhaferi came to help her. At the end, Gashi allowed her to explain the resignation, after which it was accepted. Before her explanation, VMRO-DPMNE and ZNAM MPs had left the plenary hall.
Levica welcomed her resignation, while MP Elmi Aziri said the European Front would very soon make a decision regarding the vacancy at the Committee. He also criticised Speaker Gashi, saying there had been a tendency to prevent Dauti from explaining her resignation.
