Parliament Passes Pardon Law

Parliament has passed the Pardon Law, proposed by the Justice Ministry. Now, the President can only pardon a person if they are sentenced, not if they are criminally prosecuted.

As the Ministry pointed out on Wednesday, during the preparation of the text, multiple comparative experiences were considered, such as laws from legal systems in EU members and in countries with which North Macedonia has a similar legal system.

“The reasons for the adoption arise from the shortcomings and loopholes in the current Law that were located in its implementation in practice, as well as from the need to more precisely set norms for certain matters regulated by the proposal,” the Ministry said.
