Parliament Prepares for Tuesday Constitutive Session of New Assembly

The Parliament is making the final preparations for the constitutive session of the new parliamentary assembly which is scheduled to take place today.

118 out of 120 MPs are expected to assume their seats at the parliament, since there are still ongoing procedures at the State Electoral Commission (SEC) for the confirmation of two mandates after a revote took place last Wednesday.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, the constitutive session must take place no later than 20 days after the parliamentary election, and cannot last longer than 3 days.

In meantime, Alternative leader Afrim Gashi confirmed that he had officially resigned from the position as party leader in order to be able to be elected as Parliament Speaker by the new assembly, since the Rules of Procedure state that the PS cannot function as a leader of a political party or occupy a managing position in a political party.
