Parliament Speaker Gashi in Interview with RFE Macedonian

In an interview with RFE Macedonian on Sunday, Speaker Afrim Gashi said the majority in Parliament was stable, regardless of whether someone would join or leave it as a result of the turmoil within VLEN. He disagrees with DUI’s stand that early parliamentary polls should be held simultaneously with the local elections.

“The majority is very stable. We already have around two-thirds. On the other side, the local elections are closer and closer, but I don’t think we should always get caught up in that election fever and adrenaline that we must organise elections for everything. We must understand local elections in terms of their nature, what type they are, too, in their essence. There are talks about sewerage, water supply, cleaner roads, lighting. I don’t think we should put high politics in the field of local elections”, he noted.

Asked what would VLEN get through its transformation from a coalition into a single party, Gashi said there would be stability.
