An increasing number of citizens have reported to the Ombudsperson’s Office that they are not able to withdraw money from banks as a result of the personal documents issue, that is, because their ID and passport containing the old constitutional name have expired, while the process to obtain new documents has lasted for too long.
The Office believes that a solution should be found that will be similar to the one that has enabled citizens with documents containing the old constitutional name to vote in the upcoming elections.
It has warned also that if no action is taken, the situation will get even more complicated.
“Citizens are not just voters. A person’s first name, last name, and unique citizen identification number are for life,” Deputy Ombudsperson Jovan Andonovski said on Wednesday, adding that the National Bank would have to adjust the matter and submit a final stand to banks on how they should operate.
