On Tuesday, commenting on the issue of ex-PM Nikola Gruevski, PM Dimitar Kovacevski said that he needed to return to North Macedonia to be brought to justice according to the country’s laws and verdicts from independent judicial organs.
Asked whether he was facing pressures for reintroduction of ex-President Gjroge Ivanov’s pardons for conditions to be created for a Gruevski return and whether he had discussed the matter with his predecessor, Zoran Zaev, and SDSM Secretary-General Mile Zecevic, the PM said that he had met neither Zaev nor Zecevic.
Regarding the issue of court- judicial organs, the PM said he didn’t have communication, adding that they needed to work independently.
Asked whether Zaev was getting ready to be a presidential candidate, the PM said the party had a defined procedure for nominating candidates.
“Every member of the party that meets criteria, which are referred to in both the Statute and Rulebooks within the party, can be nominated or nominate themselves,” he stated.
