PM Mickoski and Counterpart Orban Hold Press-Conference after Meeting and Joint Governmental Conference

After the meeting and the joint Governmental session of North Macedonia and Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday, a message was sent at that the two cabinets were on the same page when it came to Ukraine, that is, that Europe should push for a sustainable peace solution and that precisely Europe should play a more significant role in the process to finally stop the war.

The meeting, both PMs, Hristijan Mickoski and Viktor Orban said at a press-conference, is coming at a very sensitive period, in which transatlantic relations are at a crossroads.

The latter reiterated that both countries were among those that had cosponsored the US resolution at the UN. Mickoski, on his part, called for sustainable peace.

“Let’s encourage and support together Europe taking on a more intensive role in a process to reach a lasting and sustainable peace in Ukraine through partnership and alliance with the US, something that benefits the Ukrainian friends, but also Europe itself”, North Macedonia’s PM stressed.

Regarding Skopje’s EU path, PM Orban expressed his country’s support.

“We support EU membership of yours because the EU must improve its competitiveness in the world, with the enlargement process proceeding being the only way to do that. The EU’s biggest moral debt is to North Macedonia”, the Hungarian PM noted.

Mickoski again criticised the negotiations’ “bilateralisation”.

“I hope this process will be unlocked by friendly Hungary. We’re a government that respects assumed obligations, but we ask that others who’ve assumed an obligation to respect their obligations as well”, he underlined.

Previously, regarding the joint session, Mickoski had said key matters of common interest had been considered and aligned. When it comes to the bilateral meetings of ministers, he stated that they had represented grounds to deepen and solidify cooperation.
