In an interview with Kanal 5 on Thursday, PM Hristijan Mickoski said that the opposition’s concern over the country’s relations with the EU due to the strategic ties with the US was based on hypocrisy, stressing that in the past, his party, VMRO-DPMNE, had been accused of having a pro-East orientation.
In that regard, he asked “How has now, all of a sudden, the true question become about that strategic partner of ours basically not being a strategic partner?”.
Regarding the cosponsoring of the US resolution, he said that the decision was based on the cabinet’s stand that President Donald Trump had a clear plan on how to end the conflict. North Macedonia, according to him, will continue to be present in the region, but it will not be sending soldiers to Ukraine.
Regarding Bulgaria, asked what would be done if Washington said the constitutional changes needed to be made, the PM stated that there would be no constitutional changes until Sofia, too, completed its obligations when it came to rights of minorities.
Asked about the Judicial Council, he said that if the five members continued to refuse to resign following the successful no-confidence motions, the people would start protests, while he would be the first to join them and he would lead those protests. The people, the PM added, is hungry for justice.
