In response to Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry’s stand that he has presented manipulative theses, PM Hristijan Mickoski stated on Thursday that it was the western neighbour that was interfering in his country’s internal matters, not the other way around.
According to him, the demand that the 14 European Court of Human Rights verdicts regarding the Macedonian community in Bulgaria be implemented is founded only on the Resolution concerning protection of human rights and doesn’t constitute any interference in Bulgaria’s internal matters.
“If a change of a country’s constitution is not direct interference of a sovereign and independent country’s internal matters, I really then don’t know what is”, the PM noted.
The Foreign Ministry, too, voiced a stand, saying respecting and implementing the Court’s verdicts were not bilateral matters, but rather a mandatory obligation of every CoE member.
The same day, Mickoski declined to comment on the comments by EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas made the previous day about a strengthened diplomatic activity to unblock the EU path, only saying it could be unblocked as early as in two days. However, he added that it didn’t depend on his country, but rather on other countries.
He said journalists interested in the matter being explained more should refer questions to the EU Ambassador.
