PM, President, Parliament Speaker Extend Greetings for Day of Independence

PM Hristijan Mickoski extended greetings to the citizens at the central celebration for the Day of Independence of North Macedonia (8 September), titled “From Dream to Reality, for Eternity”, that took place at the National Philharmonic in Skopje.

“8 September is not just a date, but a continuity of the thriving for sovereignty of one of the smallest peoples in Europe, and a consequence of their many battles. Today we once again face challenges that demand courage and making bold decisions, and we must again make the right choice – to choose work, to choose unity, to choose and build a future for our children.

Of course we prioritise the integration in the EU, but that road must not be shameful any more. We need to be equal to all other nations in Europe, and not humiliated and shamed, like many of the citizens feel after all these years”, Mickoski said.

President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova too extended greetings on occasion the Independence Day, via social networks.

“Today, 34 years after declaring independence, in a world based on strength instead of laws and rights, we still struggle to be sovereign, equal, modern, standard, European legal state, member of the EU. We all have to proceed with the fight to reaffirm these interests, both at home and internationally”, Siljanovska Davkova said.

Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi also congratulated the citizens.

“The Day of Independence is a very special moment and possibility to remind ourselves of our greatest achievements. It also reminds us of the lesson that independence is not something that we get as a gift, but something we need to fight for and we need to maintain. Let us all unite in our pledges for fulfilling the aspirations of our country, to strengthen peace and stability and maintain coexistence”, Gashi said.
