Poland’s Szlapka and Bulgaria’s Georgiev on Enlargement Issue

Poland’s EU Affairs Minister, Adam Szlapka, said on Tuesday that enlargement was one of his country’s EU presidency’s priorities. Poland, he added, is ambitious and committed to the process.

However, the Minister said progress depended not only on the Presidency, but also on the European Commission, EU members, and candidates. Minister Szlapka also stated that his country was waiting for Commission reports and was ready to put the matter on the table before the Council of the EU.

Also regarding enlargement, Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister, Georg Georgiev, had held a meeting with Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos the previous day. They discussed the integration path of the Western Balkans, Ukraine, and Moldova.

The Bulgarian Minister said his country’s policy for support of integration of all candidates was consistent in terms of strict implementation of the merits-based principle and implementation of reached agreements.

Only on the basis of real results and progress can confidence be built among candidates and the EU, which is of key success to the success of the integration process, Georgiev added.
